Emily was tagged *beams*

It has come to my attention, dear reader, that I have been tagged. First by Meggie from Magic, Ink, and Dreams, and then by Victoria of Raindrops and Moonlight, and I must say I am feeling rather flattered to have been thought of *beams* Having thus informed you of what goes on I shall proceed to let my fingers skip merrily across the keyboard and fulfill the assignment that I have been given. *settles a pair of studious glasses atop her nose*

First off, my dears, rules and regulations. Order above all things, you know!

 1. It is imperative that these rules be plainly visible to all who can see and will see your blog. Therefore, post them at the top.

 2. Because random facts about people tend to captivate interest, post 11 personal and insignificant facts about yourself.

3. Answer your friend/acquaintance/fellow wanderer's 11 questions as well and as fully as you are able.

 4. Ask 11 more questions on hopefully philosophical or otherwise thoughtful subjects.

 5. Find 11 more friends/acquaintances/fellow wanderers to tag--gently, please.

Go to their blogs and inform them of the happy fact that they are now Officially Tagged and Must Do Your Bidding.

To begin with, eleven facts about myself:
1. I love to draw. This is perhaps not a new fact to those who read my blog or who know me. However, I can also tell you something with regard to this love of pencils and page that you cannot possibly know, which is, I have just now finished drawing a picture of a bunny in a teacup, and I’m rather pleased. Bunnies and teacups are both rather sweet, you know, and add to that a few colored pencils and a bit of imagination and you have a very happy Emily.

2. It was just my birthday yesterday. I turned seventeen, which is really, quite ancient. So I am now a little old lady who sits in a little rocking chair knitting away with her red wool. This also makes me happy.

3. I recently wrote a very sad, slightly melodramatic story. One would expect writing such a story would make one such as I; feel dismal and sad while writing it. On the contrary I was as happy as could be and I rather reveled in the sorrow, the “if only” and the emotion. I found it most enjoyable. It was not that I liked thinking of people being sad, but I liked portraying and trying to bring across a sense of sorrow. I liked trying to grasp at a feeling and emotion and through my words express it in a way that you empathized and understood. So yes, writing sad stories makes me happy now.

4. I am obsessed with writing emails. Obsessed. I shan’t even say how many I send out in a week for fear of embarrassing myself. Let me only say writing and receiving emails is one of my favorite things. Though I am dreadfully slow sometimes at responding to the people whom I delight in sending longer more rambling emails too (Hi, yes, I know. *scuffles feet* I’m sorry, dears. I shall try to do better. *hugs* just scold me dreadfully and I promise I shall finish sooner next time.)Writing emails makes me happy.

5. Handwritten letters too. They make me immensely happy. I just love getting an envelope addressed to my name in the mailbox. Especially ones from Australia. I am really happy for days afterwards when I get a nice plump letter in the mail.

6.I just recently created a tumblr, for posting pretty pictures and random happy little thoughts. Also because I wanted to play with new blog designs and I really couldn’t bear to change this one around. Raindrops on Roses

7. My favorite hours are those when dusk has settled down upon the world and I can curl up with a blanket and enjoy those night hours. In fact I always end up staying up far too late into the night because I don’t want to let the nighttime come. I don’t want to slip into sleep and waste those lovely hours. Though, in the morning, when the sunshine is peeping in through the windows, there’s nothing more that I want than sleep.

8. When I was a little girl my favorite game to pretend was that I was a little shepherd maiden named Margret. In fact I do not remember a time when I did not have a way of slipping into my alias as Margret at the oddest times. Margret has a way of going from being a common shepherd girl, to a princess, to a poor kidnapped maiden, to a inn-keeper’s daughter at a moment’s notice, but she was always named Margret.

9. I have to say, I really like the name Theodore right now. My brothers think I’m quite mad for some reason, but Theodore! It’s so- Theodore-ish, and his nickname would be Teddy, which I just find awfully sweet.

10. I love springtime, but then again I love winter too, and fall and summer. I just love the seasons. There’s something so beautiful about each of them. Each of them has their own special sort of something that makes it the most beautiful of all.

11. In the month of April, I have so far finished four books. Jane of Lantern Hill, The Count of Monte Cristo, Crime and Punishment, and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Now I am working my way through The Three Musketeers.
__________

Now, *looks with satisfaction at her random facts* now, to answer Meggie’s questions:

1.        Would you trade your siblings (or other relative) for anything in the world?

No, no, I really have to say no. There’s nothing in this world that I would trade for my four brothers and my baby sister. If I had to lose anything I wouldn’t want it to be them, because I love them all more than anything else I could mention. So as unimaginative as that is- I would have to say no. *giggles*

2.       If you could spend your day as an animal, what would it be and why?

A little golden kitten curled up in a puddle of sun, because I have been described as such and I was so pleased with the description I shall choose that. It would be rather sweet to be a kitten for a day, you know. Enjoying the sunbeams shining down, exploring through the grass that was as tall as jungle trees, curled up in a lap with someone patting your head. Yes, it would be very nice to be a kitten for a day.

3.       When you were picking a name for your blog what were some of your ideas? And did you type them into Google to see if someone else had used it?

Well, the really only name I remember coming up with, besides my present one was “Grow Where You are Planted” but I decided that was rather long for the purpose and it didn’t really stick. The other ideas I came up with were never of real consideration so at the moment I can’t even seem to remember them. It’s such fun to brainstorm for blog names, you know. I remember what a wonderful time I had just thinking of all of the things I could name it.

Actually, I didn’t even think of searching to see if anyone else had named their blog by the same name, it didn’t even cross my mind, I don’t think it really mattered to me either. I wouldn’t have cared if there were hundreds of other blogs by the same name, it only mattered that I felt that name was the most fitting name for my blog that I could come up with. That is was the right and only name that would fit my blog just right.

4.       Did you ever get caught lying?

Hm, well I think I remember once upon a time saying I hadn’t eaten the cookie when in all actuality I had and then my younger brother had gotten blamed. I remember it torturing me so much that I confessed. I don’t think there’s a worse punishment, child or adult, than a guilty conscience. It is the worst feeling in all the world *shudders* (*is suddenly inspired to write a story about a guilty conscience* *opens eyes wide* Inspiration.)

5.        Try to picture yourself in ten years. What will have changed? What do you hope for by then?

I’m not going to write out a picture of myself as a fulfillment of all my hopes and dreams, for I feel that so much will change by then,  I will have changed so much and I’m open to those changes and I don’t want to set myself in stone for one particular road or another. What I will say, is my hope is that I will have continued to grow and branch out and explore new possibilities. That I will have found or begun to discover my vocation and that I will be working hard on the path to fulfill it. That I will stepped past some of my shortcomings and that I will be working hard to overcome others. My hope is that I will always have people surrounding me that I love and that love me. My hope is that I will be so many steps more along God’s path for my life. My hope is that those ten years were well spent and full of growth. That is my hope for myself in ten years.

6.       If you were to lie on the couch and stare at the ceiling, what do you think would be the first thing to come to your mind?

Rainbows. Rainbows and butterflies. Fields of flowers and little bunnies hiding in the garden. Oh and sailboats and clouds. Oops, was I supposed to just mention the first thing? That’s how my mind goes, skipping from one thing to the next till I don’t even know where I began. That’s what would happen if I were lying staring at the ceiling above me.

7.        What is one thing that, more than once, you’ve longed to do?

Start singing at the top of my lungs as I was crossing the street and pretend I was in a musical. I shall still do it someday. Just watch me, and it shall be stupendous! Perhaps I may even get all the bystanders to sing with me and it shall be just one great big happy musical world.

8.       Who is your favorite character from Lord of the Rings? Why?

Sam. I love Sam. Can I even describe my love for Sam? Sam. Oh but I love Sam. He’s ever loyal, a faithful friend. He’s honest and stouthearted. He sticks to the path of goodness and truth and beauty that he has chosen and he protects Frodo no matter the costs. He’s funny and sweet and darling and oh but I love Sam. If I keep going on this strain I shall never stop…but I love Sam.

9.       If you had been given the choice of periods in history, which one would you pick to be born in?

Oh that’s an easy question! Without a doubt the period of cravats and country dances, the period of gentleman and ladies, of bows and curtsies and a beautiful meaningful language, the period of Jane Austen. May I please go back in time? Please?

10.     If you could change one thing about your country, what would it be?

Abortion.

11.      If you had been betrothed from birth to someone you didn’t know, would you marry him anyways?

Now if I were a heroine from a work of fiction I should certainly say with a toss of my head I should not! For what heroine wishes to marry a man she was betrothed to since birth? In fiction, it simply isn’t done.  However, I find it quite a shame to refuse the poor fellow simply because I happened to be betrothed to him. I should have to meet him first and then come to my decision. *looks very prim*
________

And now for Victoria’s questions!

1.        If you had a choice between spending a day in a mountain forest or at the seaside, which would you choose and why?

Oh dear me, I must choose? And I’m awful with decisions! Well, I must say that if I were to have to pick between them for an excursion say tomorrow, I should choose the seaside. Simply because at the moment the seaside sounds delightfully pleasant. A lovely day dabbling your feet in the ocean waves and curling up in a sandy corner and reading. Walking along the shore and finding seashells. Yes, it is to the seaside we must go!

2.       How do you define true beauty?

This is one of those questions where there is no simple easy answer I might give. There are so many good answers and so many good thoughts to be contemplated in this question. It is one of those questions where you could write paragraphs and paragraphs upon that subject. What I want to say though is that true beauty is what is good. True beauty is never separated from what is true, from what is right, and from what is good. Where something is true and right and good it shall be beautiful. You cannot take one without the other. That is true beauty. True beauty is a reflection of God’s grace.  It is a reflection of Him and that is what makes it true and beautiful.

3.       What is one thing that, without fail, will always touch your heart?

A person, who is lost, who’s one desire is to be loved. A child who looks at you and you can tell, all they want is a little love. All they want is a hug, a kiss, an “I love you darling” that’s all they want, and they don’t get it. I will never cease to be touched and heartbroken when I see that in their eyes. When I see them light up at a moment’s notice simply because you smiled and talked to them for a few moments. It is the saddest sight in all the world, those little lost persons just looking for love, and I will never stop aching to take them into my lap, cuddle them, and tell them it will be all right. I will never stop feeling touched to the heart when I look at them and see that look of begging for a little love.

4.       What is the one thing that, without fail, will always make you want to scream and yell and generally have a fit?

Mornings. *giggles* I don’t think I need to go into more depth than that. Mornings.

5.        What is your opinion on parasols?

Is there really any person in all the world who has an unfavorable opinion on a parasol? I don’t believe it. Parasols are utterly delightful in any way that you could possibly imagine. They just ask for you to lean it gently against your should and take gentle steps as you walked down a sunny lane. Who doesn’t like a nice frilly parasol? If only I could have a parasol such as that, my life should be quite complete! That is all I can say!

6.       If an old guy in a pointy hat came to your door one fine morning and asked you to participate in an adventure, what would you do? Think about it now!

First thing to appraise: Tramp or Gandalf? If tramp; scream, slam the door, hide under bed. If Gandalf; YES I WANT AN ADVENTURE PLEASE AND THANK YOU AND IF I NEVER COME BACK THAT’S ALL RIGHT, I UNDERSTAND, AND CAN YOU DIRECT ME TO THE SHIRE PLEASE?

7.        Poetry,  hate it or love it? Why or why not?

It depends on the poetry. I really don’t like free-verse poetry at all but I love metrical verse. I love poetry that when you read it aloud it just sounds beautiful to the ear. Poetry can be beautiful or ugly just like any other things, so I love some and hate others.  It just depends. (*feels wishy washy saying “it depends” all the time*)

8.       Do you have any passages of literature memorized? Why did you choose to memorize it?

Oh dear me, yes! For years and years my family would hold little afternoon tea parties during the school year where we memorized poems and poems! Robert Louis Stevenson was always a great favorite! One year I memorized almost the entire poem of The Lady of Shallot, *cough* Did you ask if I happened to pick that poem because it is recited in the Anne of Green Gables movie? Now why would you think that? *cough*

9.       What do you wish most to accomplish by blogging?

To grow in my writing and perhaps by having my blog as inspiration write down thoughts I would perhaps never have thought to put into words unless I had that idea in mind. Also, to have a way of recording these past years and the thoughts and words pertaining to them.

10.     What do you base your like or dislike of a film off on?

*cough* whether it’s similar to the book? *cough* of course there are bunches of other things that come into play at creating a good movie- but if it’s a ruined version of the book- I cannot like, no matter how good a movie.

11.  Do you believe in the clichĂ© saying “follow your heart”? Why or why not?

Yes, and no. To follow your heart is a good thing but it must also be balanced with good sense and judgment and moral standing. If you were simply to follow your heart without regard to any of those other things you would get into an awful mess before long. It is a good thing to trust what your heart is telling you and guiding you to do but you must also use sense and judgment to evaluate choices, and prayer.

Now, I'm going to be very bad and not tag anyone, because all my favorite blogs have already been tagged and I hardly think I shall tag them again. To keep in the spirit of things however I shall come up with eleven questions and pose them to whoever feels in the mood to do this. If you do happen to decide to "be tagged" by me, would you please leave a comment so I can go to your blog and enjoy reading your answers? Thank you *beams*

Black Coffee and Many Words

I’m thinking…

It’s been a while since I’ve done a journaling page isn’t it? I don’t think I’ve written one up since I was at Christendom, which by the way, I still need to type up those journaling pages that I handwrote in a notebook before I lose them. I’m rather afraid of losing the things I write in notebooks from experience. I can’t seem to find a story I wrote up for a contest a while back, so now I can’t enter it; which is sad on the one hand since I actually wrote it, yet on the other it wasn’t a story I was overly fond of so I’m not too heartbroken about it- at the moment that is. I really have no idea where that story could have vanished to. Perhaps it is still lost in the pages of one of the many notebooks I have. It really could be in any of them. It could be hidden in one of the three I have by my bed, or the couple that are stashed in my desk drawer, or perhaps one of the ones that are flouting about in canvas bags.

I don’t think I shall spend much time looking for that particular story, however, much better to simply write a new and better one. I’m in such a mood for writing. I just want to sit down and write the day away, while sipping at a cup of black coffee. I have discovered today that I like black coffee, which is strange since I’m ever so fond of a cup of creamy coffee, sweet but not too sweet, but today I like black coffee. Today I like black coffee, an open book on my left hand and a vase of tulips on my right. Today I like writing stories when I don’t know what to write about.  Today I like writing emails to the dear ones who I’ve been neglecting sadly. Today I like writing a journaling page that skips from subject to subject at a fearsome rate and is rather wordy. Today I feel like writing. Though, perhaps that is not quite unusual and is like any other day? I nearly always feel like writing, even when I can’t find the words or a subject to write on, I always feel like writing.

I think today I shall get out my book of writing prompts and write a story from one of them. It’s funny isn’t it, how a short phrase can set a spark in your imagination and suddenly you have an entire story created from it? It doesn’t even have to be a complete sentence, just a single word and suddenly your imagination takes flight and your fingers are flying across the keyboard at a rate that astonishes even yourself.

I love that feeling, where you suddenly feel like your fingers are taking over. You aren’t pausing and lingering over the keys, your fingers are typing as fast as your thoughts can come, only never quite fast enough. It’s as if for a brief moment in time your thoughts and your fingers are one, meeting up together and bringing out the words on the page together. That’s why I don’t like writing with a pen or pencil quite as well, because there is such a bigger physical impediment to overcome. Your hand can’t keep up and your thoughts are flying away from you as quickly as they come.

Outside my window…

The first thing I notice when glance over my shoulder towards the window is the many white daisies sprinkled all over the lawn. Then my eyes wander to the yellow dandelions mixing in and out with the pink and white petals. Sunlight and shadow cast themselves over the little flowers and the grass. Longer blades of grass that line the gravel of the road swing gently in the breeze.

From the kitchen…

Lunch just finished. About time to do the dishes, wut wut? And yes, I did just feel like a hare from Redwall saying that, why?

I’m reading…

Right now I’m reading several books. You see, Crime and Punishment is the book I am reading primarily, however I’m also as a lighter read, reading some of Grimm’s fairytales, though when I say lighter perhaps I really mean easier? Since really, some of them are terribly dark. I’m still rather caught up in the after affects of reading The Count of Monte Cristo, those moments after reading a really good book where you are bewailing that it had to end, and I was reading some Sherlock Holmes when I was on break at the library the other day. So yes, I’m reading rather a lot of good books at the moment. Isn’t it ever so lovely to think of all the wonderful books out there that you have yet read for the first time? It’s really quite comforting to know that there will always be a beautiful new book to discover, or a beautiful old book to reread. There is always a book to be read and that is just waiting for you to open the covers and whisper those beginning words to yourself.

I’m listening to…

Right now I am perched atop the blue chair in the corner of my room, the laptop propped on my knees, listening to Pricilla Ahn songs. I just couldn’t seem to focus downstairs; my brothers were being far too distracting with Court Jester quotes and summersaults and such. much better able to focus now listening to my soft music and typing away happily.

I’m wearing…

A blue peasant style blouse, jeans, purple socks and my hair up in a messy bun.

A few plans for the rest of the week…

I can’t seem to think forward to the rest of the week- just today. Today I plan on getting school done, many and much writing done, perhaps some sketching, reading, and then I shall skip off to work. There hasn’t been much to do at work at all the past few days, not as many books to shelve as usual, or perhaps we are just getting faster? I can’t tell which. Anyways, I rather hope there will be more to do today than there has been. I don’t like days where you are scrounging for work to do, I like busy days where there are overflowing carts of books and lots to do. I like having a lot to do. Ever so much better than those days where you have to resort to alphabetizing the Spanish section yet again, or the graphic novels.

 Around the house…

As I said before, at some point during this journaling page (at least I think I said it, didn’t ?) that I would really like to spend some time working on writing some new story of a sort. So that’s what I would like to be doing around the house at the present moment. Just sitting here, in this same place as I write my journaling page, doing the same thing, writing, only on a story.

 I’m creating…

A book review on the series The Hunger Games, writing down my thoughts about Christendom college, and a drawing or two with my new pencils.

One of my favorite things…

Sleep. Naps. Sleep. More sleep.

Picture thoughts I’m sharing…

From the kitchen…

Coffee in a bright red cup. Tulips in a glass milk jug. Three silver pans stacked up by the sink. A teapot just cooled, honey and a spoon resting on the counter together. A loaf of bread still open. Today I like short sentences. Today I like word pictures. Today I like a few words grouped together and a period at the end. Today I like coffee in a bright red cup.

I’m reading…

Resting beside me on the table top, lying open, just as I left it when I set it down to come write this is “Jane of Lantern Hill.”  Yes, another L. M. Montgomery. What can I say? I don’t think I’ve read a book of hers that I haven’t loved, more than loved. You can just slip into their pages, find yourself walking in Avonlea, feeling the soft PEI breeze whisking past you and clutch your daisies as you skip through the tall grass. Of all the places in the world Prince Edward Island is still one of the ones I want to visit the very most. It used to be the place I wanted to go to the very most, with other places coming as follow-ups, but now it’s positioning has shifted to “one of the most.” You see, I would like to go to Australia more now, but the idea of Prince Edward Island still has all it’s magic. The idea still gives me prickly feelings as L. M. Montgomery’s words of description come back to me. There’s just something so enchanting about the idea of walking in the fields where Ann walked. Now, don’t anybody tell me Ann isn’t real, because I just won’t believe you. Of course Ann is real, and of course she walked in those fields of tall grass, and ran down by the shore, and of course her laughter still rings in the air, because that is Prince Edward Island.

I’m wearing…

Today I am staying home all day and wearing whatever I like, as can be told by my horrendously clashing pink and yellow strip dress and purple and blue striped socks. With a fancy white shrug sweater as the whip cream of my horrendously clashing attire.

A quote I’m contemplating…

"The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that He, in His goodness, sends to us day after day."
~Saint Gianna Beretta Molla

And I rather liked this one…

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

I’ve never heard of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross before, I wonder if she’s an author? Anyways, I liked this quote.

 I’m creating…

Right now I’m working on creating a letter for a dear friend. I do like letters, writing them and receiving them. It just makes me happy.

 I’m thinking…

I still need to write up all the pages and pages of journaling pages and things that I wrote up in my notebook while I was away at Christendom, I think I have a few stories written up by hand that I need to type up, that is if I still like them when I come to typing them. That’s the thing about writing, by the time you come to typing it all up your views often change so it never seems to come out just like you had written it before.

Many and More Thoughts

I’m thinking…

I have to say one of my biggest procrastination excuses when I’m writing is sitting, facing the computer, and changing the font and formatting multiple times. When I can’t seem to come up with any of the words that fit what I want to say properly, I have a bad habit of opening up the little font box at the top of the screen and clicking on half a dozen different fonts. I will type a little with each font, and then finding (surprise) that the new font isn’t inspiring me any more than the previous one, I go and choose a different one altogether. It’s really quite a bad habit to fall into, because you can just sit staring at the empty word document for the longest time imaginable just going through different fonts. It doesn’t get you any farther in what you are writing, it doesn’t change any of the words that you have written already, and it doesn’t change anything- except give you an excuse to distract yourself from actually writing.

I suppose it’s really the same thing as when I start writing out the beginning sentence to a letter I’m trying to write over and over again on sheet after sheet of paper. I stare at my handwriting, looking lopsided at the head of the page, frown, and crumple up the sheet of paper. It’s really all an excuse to put off doing something that you want, and should, be doing. It’s a somewhat reasonable excuse at first, “oh I just want to change the typesetting, this one isn’t working for me,” but when you have been sitting at the computer changing the font over and over again and going nowhere with the actual writing, it becomes a problem.

I think sometimes that beginning whatever you are writing is the hardest part of it, but other times I think it’s the middle, and still other times I think it’s the end. You see what a fickle creature I am? Sometimes I find it easy to write up ten different beginnings for ten different things but when I come to the middle I have a hard time plowing through. Then again, there are times when the beginning is the hardest to come up with, that single beginning sentence that progresses easily into the rest of the paragraphs.

I suppose, really, that’s why I like to have quite a few different stories and blog posts going at the same time, so that when I get muddled or tired with one I jump to the next. The problem is it’s rather hard to jump back and forth from different styles of writing. It’s easy to let a story fall neglected in the back of the saved documents, saying “I shall get back to that one soon.”

I’m listening to…

Keep Breathing by Ingrid Michaelson. I really love this song, I think because the words “all we can do is keep breathing…” that play over and over again in the chorus are really so beautiful. It’s really a word picture that I want to capture somehow, and that I keep trying to in different things as I’m writing, that feeling of just breathing in and out and listening to that sound only. I don’t quite know how to express it, it’s like a sense of all these tumultuous emotions going on inside of someone, and all they can do is keep breathing in and out, hanging on. I think everyone has moments like that, only varying in strength and weight. Breathing in, breathing out, closing your eyes, listening to the physical sense of the air filling your lungs, and the thoughts that flood through your mind.

I’m creating…

Can one simply be creating thoughts? I feel like that at the moment, sitting here, as I try to write and formulate coherent words. Soft music plays in the background and I keep finding myself drifting away from my fingers that are trying to type, and drifting into a train of thought. Thoughts that can’t seem to be put into any words at the moment, perhaps someday they will become words that will play a large part in something I write, but for the moment they are just little inconsequential thoughts that drift in the back of my mind like little breezes. Too inconsequential, not well formed enough, still too vague, to be put into sentences that express them. I think it’s interesting how old thoughts tend to come back after a while and drift into my various stories without my even intending them to. I won’t be thinking about it, I’ll be writing about a couple random characters and suddenly they are speaking words that are a part of thoughts that I had been thinking a few weeks, perhaps months, sometimes even years ago. I’ll read over it again and wonder how those words crept into the story, how those thoughts I had almost forgotten were now part of the very fabric of the story I had just written. That’s why giving yourself time just to think is never wasted, everyone needs moments where they can sit back and stare at the ceiling and think many thoughts. Are those thoughts ever wasted, even if they are never to be put into words? I don’t think so. I don’t think thoughts are ever wasted, they shape who you are, and they become part of you. Thoughts and time to think are never wasted.

I think that’s part of the reason why I like my job at the library so very much. You see, I can think while working. I don’t have to think about if I’m shelving things in the right place any more; I can just pick up the books off the cart and get caught up in my thoughts. There’s something so very lovely about walking around, pushing my cart of books, thinking my own thoughts while my hands are busy doing something else. I suppose why this job wouldn’t be right for just anyone, I think a lot of people would get really bored after a while because even when they were working their very hardest there is still nothing to really occupy your mind with unless you enjoy getting caught up in thoughts about the cloud drifting past the window. You have to enjoy being quiet, you have to enjoy listening to the sound of a soft rustling of books in the background; you have to enjoy thinking random little thoughts.

I have rather a bad habit of getting too caught up in my thoughts though; it can be a bad thing. I can get so caught up in thinking about some little thing, turning over an odd little thought in my head, that I can get rather oblivious to what’s going on around me. The other day I apparently looked somebody straight in the face, so obviously they thought I had seen them, but I didn’t. If I hadn’t gone up to say hi and ask why they hadn’t come to say hi when they first arrived, I probably would never have known. Yes, I get that bad. It’s rather embarrassing and I need to work on it. Emily needs to get her head out of the clouds sometimes, but it’s rather hard when thoughts are so interesting sometimes.

 Outside my window…

For a long while the blue heron that comes to our pond was standing directly across from we when I glanced out the window. I like watching him stand in the water, motionless, waiting, then suddenly diving his head into the water and coming up with a goldfish. Can you imagine having to do that? Just standing there, hour after hour, never letting yourself move, until your dinner came close. I think I would much rather be the little goldfish swimming beneath the water, finding my dinner there, even though if that were the case I’d probably get eaten by the blue heron. I’d rather like to be a little fish though, swimming down in the water, looking at the world from beneath the rippling surface. I’m watching the water move on the surface as I write this out. Watching it ripple, and go swirling from one side to the next. I’m watching the little raindrops making their imprinting upon the surface in a calm moment. The little reeds and small trees at the water’s edge rustle with the breeze and the grass looks wet and green with the drizzling rain falling on it.

One of my favorite things…

Rhymes that aren’t cheesy. I’ve been discovering that so many rhymes get so cheesy sounding, they sound like bad puns. A good rhyme sounds beautiful; it just makes a sentence blossom out into poetry. You don’t even notice that it was a rhyme; it was just part of two sentences that go perfectly together. Have you ever listened to the rhymes they insert into commercials though? Oh my goodness. Really. It’s bad. I sometimes wonder who sits writing such balderdash: do they enjoy writing things like that? Things that make somebody snort and go off into muffled choking and laughter saying “did they really just rhyme that with that? Dear me.” So yes, a rhyme that is well rhymed is one of my favorite things. It creates beautiful sentences, beautiful poetry to the ear, I can’t say I am very good at coming up with them myself, but when I hear a sentence where someone has it just makes me beam happily, now THAT was a good rhyme.

From the kitchen…

I put some chicken in the crock-pot to simmer away until I can get the rest of the ingredients together for a soup I’m going to make for dinner. I’m rather excited to try out this new recipe, it sounds delightful. I do like soups; they are such nice homey things. There is nothing homey than a nice big pot of soup bubbling merrily away in the kitchen, filling the house with warm lovely smells, especially when it’s rather a cold chilly day, with rain drizzling outside.

I’m wearing…

One of the dresses I brought along for World Youth Day and that I wore in Paris, so it always reminds me of that. When I walk around, with the long, black and white striped folds swirling around me I think of walking down the street listening to a group of musicians playing “What a wonderful world” by an old looking cafĂ©. I think of lying on my back in the grass and looking up at the Eiffel tower gleaming at nighttime. It’s interesting what little things can bring back such strong memories. Things like wearing a dress that you wore somewhere else; it can bring back all those memories of that day.

A few plans for the rest of the week…

At this point all I can really think about when I reach this prompt is Thursday. Thursday, getting on an airplane and flying to Virginia. All I can think of is packing my suitcase and toting around as I tour Christendom college. All I can think about is what book to bring for the airplane ride, all I can think about is finding a proper camera, all I can think about is the little stack of things waiting for me to get them ready. All I can think about is Thursday.
